“Leonard Cohen was my biggest inspiration and a guiding hero in my journey as a singer/songwriter,” she says. “I discovered him when I heard Nina Simone’s haunting version of ‘Suzanne’. I recall the very moment I heard ‘Famous Blue Raincoat’. Listening to that song was like diving into a sad novel, with its rich tale of love, friendship and betrayal. There are times all of us realize that the world is not a fair place and we begin to see through all the lies and deceit around us. Listening to ‘Everybody Knows,’ shook my world and blew my mind and taught me a lot about the power of music.

Del Sol has been a fan of Spragga Benz since he was a teenager, so when Ed Steinberg approached him with this opportunity he was eager to not only deliver a great music video but also to quietly show the artists his familiarity with the nuances of Jamaican music videos. Initially Del Sol was only provided with footage of the artists performing the song in different set-ups. To do the infectious dancehall reggae tune justice Del Sol implored Steinberg to shoot a few more quick scenes using the “Maggle Mout” character. The footage was shot and sent back to him in two days. These extra shots allowed Del Sol to create the skit like intro for the video.
Initially, Director Ed Steinberg approached Del Sol to take the existing animated music video and re-edit it to match the Facebook theme from which the notion of the “Poke” was adopted. Working alongside Raupa Ponce and Juan Padron (of Vampires in Havana), Del Sol Brought this video to wonderful completion. The major challenge here was that the client wanted to create a dance music video referencing Facebook while using a team in Cuba where Facebook is nonexistent. There were no storyboards or briefing of any kind for this team so Steinberg and Del Sol created a Facebook motion graphics universe to incorporate all of the animations that were created, which helped clarify things for the auxiliary team.
Working directly with critically acclaimed director Rajan Mehta and recording artist Jihae, Del Sol edited this music video. “Illusion of you” is the first single from Jihae’s fifth album, released in 2015. The concept of the video was to show Jihae as an illusion without using any special effects or digital manipulation. Cinematographer Mota Sinabel did an amazing job capturing Jihae as an illusion. As an editor, Del Sol wanted the cuts to be as sharp as the guitar stabs in the song. In the end Del Sol successfully lobbied that Jihae’s face be inverted to create a strobe-like effect at the song’s climax.
