Poke

Initially, Director Ed Steinberg approached Del Sol to take the existing animated music video and re-edit it to match the Facebook theme from which the notion of the “Poke” was adopted. Working alongside Raupa Ponce and Juan Padron (of Vampires in Havana), Del Sol Brought this video to wonderful completion. The major challenge here was that the client wanted to create a dance music video referencing Facebook while using a team in Cuba where Facebook is nonexistent. There were no storyboards or briefing of any kind for this team so Steinberg and Del Sol created a Facebook motion graphics universe to incorporate all of the animations that were created, which helped clarify things for the auxiliary team.

“Roots of Life” is a collaborative project sponsored by The North Face Japan and Nanamica that aims to raise awareness of the current condition of our earth through the themes of “Nature and Color.” In this third installment one witnesses the awesome power of the sun as captured by NASA. Del Sol reviewed and chose all of the NASA footage and suggested various music for the images to be cut to. Producer Rajan Mehta provided footage he shot in Finland of the northern lights that greatly added to the theme. The lack of narrative within this piece presented the challenge and opportunity to craft this short as a composition of color and nature.

In this short the American Society of Mechanical Engineers conducts an multinational competition to help contestants get their products to market. Each invention or product need to fulfill a need within society. They present solutions for everything from reducing birth asphyxia to helping the deaf “hear” through body vests that send signals to the wearer when certain sounds are made. Del Sol had the pleasure of working with director, writer, and producer Roger Torda. Torda is particularly skilled at combing through the interview footage which left Del Sol more time to focus on finding the absolute best takes of everything else to support the interview content.
BeatRhymers

Del Sol had the honor of documenting these young people for whom art is what motivates and heals them. Learned about lighting and exposures; this was a first, doing a shoot with only DSLR cameras. The mission of Bridging Education and Art Together (B.E.A.T.) is to transform the lives of youth in underserved communities through engaging, exciting and culturally relevant music, dance and writing programs, including: beatboxing, B-boying/B-girling (breakdance), music production and composition, and creative writing. The videos Del Sol created for co-founders James and Charles Kim were used to generate interest and ultimately funding for these programs. His love and understanding of Hip Hop culture made this an obvious fit for Del Sol. The kids were excited to see the video once it was finished which Del Sol hopes allowed them see themselves in a different light, fueling their confidence.
Sesame Square – Promo

Working with Liz Avanzato from the Sesame Workshop, Del Sol crafted a highlights reel for Seasons 2 & 3 of Sesame Square, Nigeria’s version of Sesame Street. The challenge here was creating this compilation from previously edited materials, which can be an editor’s nightmare. Ultimately, Del Sol relied on uptempo music from the region and short happy soundbites to illustrate how much of an impact The Sesame Workshop has on Nigeria. This music allowed for a pacing that allowed things to fall into place beautifully.

For Art Basel Miami Beach 2010 collectors from 21c Museum Hotel in Kentucky decided to take their new artwork for a spin, requesting that their annual dinner party be recorded. Del Sol, working with local videographer Mark Diamond, devised a simple, yet sexy promotional video that incorporated both traditional videography and time-lapse shots addressing the intimacy of the party as well as the mobile performance’s engagement with the public.

This ambitious project was to animate the intertwined worlds of Juan Doe’s stories and characters with the team’s interpretations of what happens after a drug kingpin’s reign comes to an end. The goal was to create a concept teaser for a Cartoon Network pitch targeted for Adult Swim. The team worked flawlessly together with everyone equally passionate about the show. Del Sol produced the music for this project from a combination of BB King and Louis the XIV, Raw Drums and vamping electric guitars.
Inspire

One of many projects Del Sol has done for Burson-Marsteller. It begs the question, “what inspires you?” The approach for asking this was to complete one strong statement by having these various celebrities, activists and educators finish each other’s sentences while informing us about the people who inspired them as children. I convinced producer Gloria Fusillo that this was the way to express how passionate those championing this cause are when delivering the message.

In it the Waterfall family make their way around Budapest with no time to spare as they try to win the competition. Washington Square Films did a great job producing and managing this project.

Empire is a dynamic, full-service, New York City and Tokyo-based experiential and entertainment production agency that designs and produces projects for corporations, brands, associations, nonprofits and private clients. Established in 1993, Empire has executed projects of every type in over 90 countries. This 20 year anniversary reel was a liberating project. Del Sol had the pleasure of working with both Peter Paez, and Empire president and CEO J.B. Miller. They gave a clear vision for the music they wanted but otherwise simply wanted the most striking imagery to allow their productions to stand out. Within this freedom, Del Sol was able to compile and join many beautiful and exciting clips into a vibrant montage.
